Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team at a vibrant and inclusive educational setting in Preston. The successful candidate will play a critical role in providing support to students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties, ensuring they have access to a high-quality learning environment tailored to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with teachers and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to establish individualised behaviour support plans for students.
- Provide in-class and one-on-one support to students who display challenging behaviour, helping them to engage with their learning and develop positive relationships.
- Use a range of behaviour management strategies to ensure a calm and safe learning environment for all students.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs).
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians as necessary.
- Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings with other professionals involved in the students' education and wellbeing.
- Participate in training sessions to develop a deeper understanding of behavioural issues and the most effective support techniques.
- Encourage positive behaviour and a growth mindset, promoting self-esteem and confidence in students.
- Facilitate small group sessions and interventions focused on social skills, anger management, and conflict resolution.
- Perform supervisory duties during breaks or other non-instructional times as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3, or equivalent, in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or a relevant field.
- Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Support Worker in an educational setting.
- A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach to supporting children with challenging behaviour.
- Sound understanding of strategies for managing behaviour within a classroom setting.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
