We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker to join a dedicated team in a Pupil Referral Unit based in Yeovil. The setting offer a positive educational environment for students who are unable to attend mainstream school due to various reasons including behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties. The desired Behaviour Support Worker will be supporting students from ranges from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 to gain qualifications and to achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to students exhibiting challenging behaviour, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individual behavioural support plans.
- Understand and apply the THRIVE approach effectively to promote the emotional and social development of students.
- Actively participate in meetings and training sessions as part of the professional development and review of practice.
- Monitor and report on student progress, using observation and assessment tools to adapt strategies as necessary.
- Develop trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and mentor.
- Utilise de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies in line with the school's policies and procedures.
- Promote inclusiveness and diversity, respecting the individual needs and backgrounds of each student.
- Contribute to creating a culture of continuous improvement where feedback is valued and used to enhance student outcomes.
- Work closely with families and external agencies to support the broader needs of the students.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- A background in education, care, psychology, social work or a related field.
- Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the THRIVE approach or a willingness to undergo training.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to relate to children and young adults.
- Resilience and patience in working with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
- A valid DBS check or the willingness to undertake one.
