Contract: Initially 16 weeks, with the opportunity to become permanent
Are you a Criminology graduate looking for a rewarding career where you can make a genuine difference? Do you have the patience, empathy and resilience to support young people who need someone in their corner?
Axcis Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Patchway, supporting pupils aged 5–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism and learning disabilities.
Why is this opportunity ideal for Criminology graduates?
Your understanding of human behaviour, social influences, trauma, vulnerability and the factors that shape people's lives provides an excellent foundation for working with vulnerable young people. This is an opportunity to put your academic knowledge into practice, helping pupils build confidence, develop positive relationships and overcome barriers to learning.
About the learning environment
This is a specialist, inclusive setting with a strong focus on personalised education and understanding individual needs. Pupils follow tailored learning pathways designed around their development, from early learning and life skills through to GCSEs and functional qualifications.
The latest Ofsted monitoring visit in September 2025 recognised progress in school improvement, with increasingly calm and orderly classrooms and a growing emphasis on helping pupils manage their emotions and re-engage with learning.
What makes a great Teaching Assistant?
Previous school experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who is:
• Patient, compassionate and emotionally resilient.
• Naturally empathetic, approachable and understanding.
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.
• Consistent, positive and willing to learn.
• Motivated by making a difference, not just gaining experience.
If you have the right personality, values and motivation, we want to hear from you.
