Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Designated Safeguard Lead for a SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) school located in Rochdale, Lancashire. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the safeguarding of all learners within the school, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for the development and wellbeing of every child.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the main point of contact for all concerns relating to safeguarding and child protection within the school.
- Take lead responsibility for managing and responding to safeguarding issues, providing advice and support to staff as necessary.
- Work closely with students, staff, parents, and external agencies to promote the welfare and safety of pupils.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation, guidelines, and best practices, implementing changes to school policies and procedures where necessary.
- Ensure that all safeguarding records are kept securely and in compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements.
- Organise and manage the referral process of suspected abuse or neglect to the relevant statutory agencies.
- Conduct and oversee safeguarding and child protection training for all staff to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities and can identify signs of abuse and neglect.
- Promote an environment that encourages students to discuss any concerns and ensure that they are listened to, taken seriously, and kept informed about the actions taken to protect them.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to contribute to the pastoral care and support of students.
- Report directly to the senior leadership team and governing body on safeguarding matters and contribute to the strategic planning for safeguarding within the school.
Qualifications:
- Hold a current Designated Safeguard Lead Certificate (Note: Training for this qualification is NOT provided and must already be obtained).
- Significant experience in a similar role, preferably within a SEMH or similar educational setting.
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding children legislation, guidance, and best practice.
- Proven track record of working effectively with multi-agency teams to support safeguarding and child protection.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively and discreetly with confidential information.
