Axcis Education is proud to be working in partnership with a vibrant, inclusive primary school in the N17 area to recruit a passionate and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Level 5 or above). This is a full-time, long-term position to start in September 2025, supporting children with Special Educational Needs across the school.
About the Role:
The school is seeking a confident and proactive HLTA to provide targeted support for pupils with a range of needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. The successful candidate will support learning in class, deliver interventions, and cover lessons when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Work alongside the SENCo and teaching staff to deliver tailored interventions for pupils with EHCPs
Support phonics, literacy, and numeracy sessions, using structured schemes such as Read Write Inc. and White Rose Maths
Lead small group and 1:1 activities to support academic and emotional development
Promote inclusive practice and independence in learning
Provide class cover where appropriate under HLTA duties
Engage pupils in outdoor and holistic learning, including Forest School activities where applicable
Essential Criteria:
HLTA qualification (Level 5 or above)
Prior experience supporting SEN pupils in a primary setting
Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse needs
Strong communication, behaviour management, and teamwork skills
Resilient, nurturing, and enthusiastic approach
Desirable:
Experience delivering Read Write Inc. phonics
Familiarity with White Rose Maths
Understanding of or interest in Forest School approaches
Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, sensory circuits, or emotional regulation techniques
