Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant - SEND support
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school located in the heart of Plymouth, Devon. You will be supporting the learning and welfare of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across various year groups. Your role will be fundamental in facilitating an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. Key Responsibilities: - Provide targeted support to students with a range of SEND, both within the classroom and in smaller group settings or on a 1:1 basis. - Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), teaching staff, and external agencies to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies. - Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and resources tailored to the needs of SEND students. - Monitor and track the progress of SEND students, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required. - Support the development of students’ social skills, encouraging their integration and participation in school activities. - Manage any requisite personal care needs of the students while maintaining dignity and independence. - Uphold the school policies, including those regarding safeguarding and child protection. - Participate in relevant training and professional development activities. - Foster a caring and motivational atmosphere, ensuring a safe and supportive environment at all times. Essential Qualifications and Skills: - A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND and promoting their well-being and education. - NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent teaching assistant qualification, or a degree in education/related field preferred. - Previous experience working with children, especially those with SEND, is highly desirable. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, staff, and parents. - Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. - Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills to support the educational needs of the students. - Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and awareness of the safeguarding principles. Desirable Attributes: - A team player with a collaborative approach. - Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. - Additional training or qualifications in SEND or related support areas.
