Location: Theale, Reading Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm Contract: Full-time, Temp-to-Perm Start: September We are seeking a confident and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant to join a well-respected secondary special school in Theale, Reading from September 2025. The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where every student is given the opportunity to thrive. This role is ideal for someone who has a calm, patient manner and a genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs. The school offers ongoing support, development opportunities and the potential for a permanent position. Job Description: As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with class teachers and support staff to help deliver a positive and engaging learning experience for students aged 11–16. Many students require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning. You’ll play a key role in helping them access the curriculum, build confidence and develop socially and emotionally. Key Responsibilities: • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs. • Help implement EHCP strategies and behaviour support plans. • Support teaching staff with lesson preparation and delivery. • Promote a positive and structured learning environment. • Assist students with emotional regulation and social interaction. • Use de-escalation strategies effectively and calmly when faced with challenging behaviour. • Encourage participation and celebrate student progress, both academically and personally. • Liaise with therapists and external professionals as needed. Essential Requirements: • A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in any subject. • Minimum of 3 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND. • GCSEs in Maths and English (A*–C or 4–9). • Confident in managing behaviour and using de-escalation strategies. • Able to commit to full-time hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm. • A calm, resilient and nurturing approach to support.
