SEND Learning Support Assistant - Taunton - Role:
SEND TA Jobs
DETAILS:
Job Title: SEND Learning Support Assistant
Do you want a role where your support truly matters — not just academically, but socially and emotionally too? We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist school in Taunton that supports children and young people with complex additional needs.
This is a full-time role starting ASAP, with the opportunity to become permanent after a 16-week settling-in period. Working hours are 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, and the pay rate is £13.70 per hour.
About the setting:
This is a specialist all-through school supporting pupils from early years through to post-16. Learners have a range of needs including SEMH, autism and moderate to profound learning disabilities. Education is highly personalised, with small class sizes, structured routines and specialist facilities that support communication, sensory regulation and life skills.
The most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school Good, highlighting strong relationships between staff and pupils, a calm and nurturing environment, and the school’s commitment to helping every learner make progress in their own way.
What your role will look like:
No two days are the same. You may be:
• Supporting pupils in specialist classrooms or small group settings
• Helping children regulate emotions and feel safe and understood
• Supporting communication, independence and daily routines
• Assisting with personal care, mobility or hygiene where required
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff
This role can be physically and emotionally demanding — but it is also incredibly rewarding.
Who this role is for:
You don’t need to be a qualified Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant. We’re looking for people who bring:
• Patience, kindness and emotional resilience
• A genuine desire to support vulnerable children
• Reliability and a team-focused mindset
• Personal or professional experience supporting people with SEND
This role suits graduates, support workers, youth workers, sports coaches or anyone considering a future in SEN education, care or mental health. Experience with young people is valued, but your attitude and values matter most.
If you’re ready to do work that has real impact — and be part of a supportive, specialist team — we’d love to hear from you.
Apply today to be considered for this role.
