Teaching Assistant – SEND Specialist (ASC)
Location: Poole, Dorset
Start Date: February 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
A well-regarded primary school in Poole, Dorset is seeking a committed and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from February 2026.
This full-time role involves providing 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school is looking for a patient, proactive professional who is confident supporting pupils with additional needs and passionate about helping children achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with ASC, supporting academic, social and emotional development
Implement individual support strategies tailored to the pupil’s needs and learning style
Promote positive behaviour, independence and engagement within the classroom
Support access to the curriculum through adapted resources and visual supports
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure consistent and effective provision
Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and feedback discussions
Help maintain a calm, inclusive and structured learning environment
Engage with training and professional development to support best practice in SEND
Key Requirements:
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children with ASC or SEND
Strong understanding of strategies to support pupils with autism in a primary school setting
Calm, patient and empathetic approach to learning and behaviour support
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents
Relevant TA or SEND qualifications are desirable but not essential
A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
