Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding 1:1 role within a supportive and inclusive mainstream primary school?
A highly regarded primary school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from October 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a Year 2 pupil with ASC, providing consistent, nurturing and personalised support throughout the school day.
The school is known for being welcoming and supportive, with an experienced staff team who work collaboratively to ensure pupils with additional needs are able to thrive.
About the Role
As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with ASC
Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
Support the pupil to access the mainstream curriculum and classroom activities
Adapt learning tasks and use personalised strategies to meet individual needs
Promote independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning
Support emotional regulation and help the pupil manage the demands of the school day
Provide consistent support during transitions, playtimes and less structured activities
Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO and wider school team
Monitor progress and contribute to the pupil's ongoing support and development
Encourage positive social interaction and inclusion within the wider school environment
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who has:
Previous experience supporting children with ASC/SEND – essential
Experience working on a 1:1 basis within a primary school is highly desirable
A calm, patient and consistent approach
Strong relationship-building and communication skills
The ability to adapt their approach according to the individual needs of the pupil
Confidence supporting communication, sensory and emotional regulation needs
A positive and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning
The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team
A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND to achieve their potential
