--- **Job Title: SEND Tutor (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Tutor)** **Location: Skelmersdale, Lancashire** **Job Type: Part-Time (Minimum of 10 hours per week)** --- ### **Job Description:** We are seeking a compassionate and skilled SEND Tutor to provide specialised academic support to a 10-year-old child with sensory issues and anxiety. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with children who have additional needs, particularly those who require assistive technology for communication. ### **Responsibilities:** - Deliver tailored educational activities and strategies that cater to the child's sensory needs and learning preferences. - Provide consistent support for the child's academic development, focusing on areas of difficulty and harnessing their strengths. - Assist in the use of the child's communication device, Proloquo2Go, and promote its use in learning activities. - Work collaboratively with parents and, if applicable, other professionals, to ensure a cohesive approach that maximizes the child's potential. - Support the child in managing anxiety within the learning environment, using appropriate calming techniques and strategies. - Monitor and report on the child's progress, adapting learning plans according to their evolving needs. - Develop a nurturing and supportive relationship with the child, building their confidence and independence. - Adhere to professional standards and SEND best practices. ### **Requirements:** - A degree or qualification in Special Education, Teaching, Child Psychology, or a related field. - Experience working with children who have sensory issues and anxiety. - Proficiency in the use of assistive technology for communication, specifically Proloquo2Go. - Outstanding communication skills, patience, and the ability to build rapport with children. - A flexible approach to teaching that is responsive to the needs of the individual. - Enhanced DBS check (or willing to undergo checks). - Commitment to inclusive, child-centred teaching practices. ### **Desirable:** - Experience working within a school or home-schooling environment. - Training in anxiety management techniques. - Familiarity with current SEND legislation and guidelines. ### **Work Hours & Benefits:** - This role requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week, with flexibility to work with the child's schedule. - Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications. - Professional development opportunities. - The satisfaction of making a significant difference in a child's life.
