This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate teacher who has previous experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and who can create a structured, engaging and supportive learning environment.
You will work with pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring that teaching, learning and support are tailored to their individual needs, abilities and developmental goals.
Both supply and permanent opportunities are available, offering the chance to find a role that suits your experience and career aspirations.
The Role and Responsibilities
As a Primary Teacher working within a specialist SEND setting, you will be responsible for delivering personalised, engaging lessons that support pupils' academic progress, communication, independence and wider development.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Planning, preparing and delivering lessons based on the primary curriculum, adapted to meet the needs of secondary-aged pupils.
• Teaching pupils with a range of additional needs and varying abilities within a specialist SEND environment.
• Working closely with pupils' EHCPs to support individual learning outcomes, targets and developmental needs.
• Differentiating learning activities and resources to ensure lessons are accessible, meaningful and appropriately challenging.
• Establishing clear routines, expectations and boundaries to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
• Using effective behaviour management strategies to support pupils with a range of complex needs.
• Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress, adapting teaching approaches where necessary.
• Creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing classroom where pupils feel supported and encouraged to learn.
• Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, support staff, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals.
• Supporting pupils' social, emotional and communication development alongside their academic learning.
• Contributing to reviews of pupil progress and EHCP outcomes, helping to identify next steps and areas for development.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Previous experience working within a SEND setting.
• Experience teaching or supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to maintain a calm, consistent and structured learning environment.
• The ability to adapt teaching methods and differentiate the curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
• An understanding of personalised learning and working towards EHCP outcomes.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A patient, resilient and flexible approach, with a genuine commitment to helping every pupil achieve their potential.
Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils who are working below age-related expectations and following a primary-level curriculum would be particularly beneficial.
