Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant – SEND Primary (ASC, ADHD & SEMH)
Location: Poole
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £90–£95 per day
Contract Type: Full-Time (Term Time Only)
School Type: Specialist SEND Primary School
Are you a resilient and caring Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? A specialist SEND primary school in Poole is looking for a committed full-time Teaching Assistant to join their team this September.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who have a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and benefit from tailored support to help them engage with learning and build positive relationships.
About the Role:
You will support pupils both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them access learning, regulate their emotions, and develop social and communication skills. Some children have gaps in their learning or a history of trauma, so a sensitive, consistent, and nurturing approach is essential. You’ll work closely with the teaching team, therapists, and the school’s pastoral staff to create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment for every child.
This role would suit someone with experience in a similar setting and a solid understanding of SEMH. A background in psychology, youth work, or mental health is highly desirable.
About the School:
The school is a well-regarded SEND setting that caters to primary-aged children with a range of additional needs. The staff team is dedicated, experienced, and passionate about helping every child reach their full potential. The leadership team is supportive and forward-thinking, with a strong commitment to staff development and well-being. Training and professional development are regularly offered to support career growth and build confidence in working with pupils who have complex emotional and behavioural needs.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience working with children with ASC, ADHD, and/or SEMH
A calm, patient, and consistent approach
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour regulation
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
A background in psychology, mental health, or education (desirable)
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
What We Offer:
Competitive daily rate of £90–£95
Full-time position starting September 2025
A nurturing, inclusive school community
Access to regular CPD and external training
A meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact
