Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Year 3 Class (1:1 ASC and Whole Class Support)
Location: Christchurch
Start Date: January 2026 – for the remainder of the academic year
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only (08:30 – 15:30)
Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Christchurch is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team from January 2026.
This full-time role offers the opportunity to work across both the mainstream classroom and the school’s SEND provision, providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) as well as wider support within the Year 3 class.
The ideal candidate will bring experience, empathy, and initiative — helping to ensure all pupils are engaged, confident, and making progress both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASC, using strategies that promote focus, communication, and independence.
Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SEND team to support learning within both the mainstream environment and specialist provision.
Deliver small group interventions and differentiated support to pupils with additional learning needs.
Foster an inclusive classroom culture that celebrates diversity and encourages positive behaviour.
Assist with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and the creation of engaging learning resources.
Observe and record pupil progress, sharing insights with teachers and parents as appropriate.
Support pupils during transitions, playtimes, and lunchtime, ensuring consistency of care and support.
Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development.
What We’re Looking For:
Proven experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or other SEND needs.
Ability to adapt strategies to meet individual learning styles and emotional needs.
A patient, positive, and proactive approach, with strong communication and teamwork skills.
Experience supporting learning in both mainstream and small-group settings.
A relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils.
What the School Offers:
A caring, collaborative, and inclusive school community.
Supportive leadership and a well-established SEND team.
Access to ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
A rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
