SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Communication Needs (ARP)
Location: Mainstream Primary School in Ealing, walking distance from Northolt Station
Hours: Monday–Friday | 8:30am–4:00pm
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term (Potential for Permanent Placement)
A welcoming mainstream primary school in Ealing is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join their Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP), supporting pupils aged 4–11 with Communication and Interaction needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The ARP is situated within the main school building with its own dedicated entrance. Pupils typically spend around 50% of their time in mainstream classes, depending on individual needs. The provision is an integral part of the school and works closely with staff across all year groups.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils both within the ARP and in mainstream classes, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and manage emotional and behavioural needs. The role involves delivering nurturing, structured support as part of a committed and professional team.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD and communication needs
-Use structured teaching approaches and visual communication tools such as PECS and Makaton
-Support transitions between the ARP and mainstream classes
-Assist in implementing and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
-Use consistent strategies to support challenging behaviour
-Foster a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
-Work collaboratively with teachers, ARP staff, therapists, and external professionals
Essential Requirements
-Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
-Experience working in UK primary schools
-Proven experience supporting children with Autism (ASD)
-Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
-Knowledge and use of PECS and Makaton (or willingness to learn)
-Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting SEND pupils
-Strong teamwork and communication skills
