SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary SEND School
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Start Date: June 2026
Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Monday to Friday, 08:30–15:30)
Pay: £90–£100 per day (dependent on experience)
We are working in partnership with a specialist primary SEND school in Bournemouth that is seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from June 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive setting ahead of the new academic year, allowing you to build strong relationships with pupils and staff early on. You will support primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing both 1:1 and small group support to help them regulate emotions, develop positive behaviours, and re-engage with learning in a structured, nurturing environment.
The school particularly welcomes candidates with backgrounds in sports coaching, mentoring, youth work, or behaviour support, where consistency, routine, and positive role modelling are key.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group SEMH support
Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement
Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Assist with classroom learning, interventions, and structured activities
Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils who may present challenging behaviour
Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENDCo, and pastoral teams
Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and unstructured periods
Candidate Requirements
Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, ASC, or behavioural needs
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Background in sport, coaching, mentoring, or youth work (desirable)
Willingness to undertake training and adhere to safeguarding procedures
Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
