Axcis Education is currently recruiting Teaching Assistants with a background in Psychology or related fields, including undergraduate or postgraduate students and graduates. We are particularly interested in individuals with a passion for child psychology, social work, psychotherapy, or related disciplines.
About the Role
We work closely with a range of SEND and mainstream schools across the Plymouth area, supporting pupils with a variety of additional needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ADHD, anxiety, and trauma.
Teaching Assistants with a psychology background are especially well suited to these roles, where understanding behaviour, emotional regulation, and developmental needs is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional learning or emotional needs
Assist with small group interventions and classroom-based activities
Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to support pupil development
Build positive, professional relationships with pupils and staff
Support behaviour management in line with school policies
Contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
About You
Psychology degree (or currently studying towards one) – undergraduate or postgraduate
Interest in child development, education, mental health, or social care
Experience working with children, young people, or SEND is beneficial but not essential
Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
What We Offer
£14.25-£15.50 an hour
Term-time only working pattern (8:30am – 3:30pm)
