A large proportion of our job vacancies are for Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants for both special needs and mainstream schools.  Roles may involve whole class support, small group support, or one-to-one positions where the TA / LSA is assigned specifically to one pupil.
 
You will encounter SEND statemented pupils in the mainstream setting as well as in special schools (schools dedicated to working only with such pupils), and it is vitally important that you are aware of your role and your responsibilities in either situation. For example, some schools may have restraint procedures in place, like Team Teach, and PMLD schools will expect you to help with feeding and toileting the young people as required, and may therefore train you to use manual handling equipment. (Note: statements are being phased out over the next few years and are being replaced with Education, Health and Care Plans).
