Passionate About Supporting Secondary Pupils with SEMH. Position: SEMH Mentor (Teaching Assistant) Location: Secondary Schools – Salford & Greater Manchester Type: Full-Time Sector: SEMH Pay: £90+ (Subject to experience and qualifications) About the Role Axcis Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate Mentor to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). This would be a great opportunity for candidates that want to gain real hands on experience to support future roles working in rules such as Pastoral Support Worker, Head of Year or Alternative Provision Manager You’ll play a vital role in supporting both academic and emotional development through a combination of 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in-class assistance. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENDCO and pastoral teams to help children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn. About the student: The Male student has recently moved to the setting after previously attending a mainstream secondary. The student was previously supported by a Male TA and had developed a secure attachment. The ideal candidate would be able to mirror this attachment as either a parental or older sibling figure. When dysregulated the student can display challenging behaviour, the ideal candidate would be able to provide the correct balance of warmth and rigidity when applying policies. Although not diagnosed the student does display behaviours linked to PDA( Pathological Demand Avoidance), the right candidate would either have experience of supporting students with PDA or have an understanding of the condition. Your Responsibilities Will Include: - Providing 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs -Leading or supporting small group interventions focused on emotional literacy, social skills, and behaviour -Zones of Regulation interventions -Emotional Coaching -Nurture Groups intervention -Social Stories intervention - Applying the "PACE approach" (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) -Assisting in the creation and review of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs) -Using de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, PBS, or Proactive Approaches+) -Encouraging positive peer interactions and building social communication skills -Promoting emotional regulation and resilience through consistency and structured routines -Contributing to the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) -Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, CAMHS) About Our partner Schools Our schools are specialist SEMH settings that create supportive, nurturing, and inclusive environments that prioritise emotional wellbeing alongside academic success.
