Job Overview:
Axcis are looking for a Behaviour mentor to join a Secondary school setting in Croydon. The Behaviour Mentor will play a crucial role in supporting students with behavioural challenges, helping them to develop positive behaviours and coping strategies to succeed both academically and socially. This role involves working closely with teachers, parents, and support staff to create an environment where students can thrive and make progress.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with behavioural challenges, helping them to develop appropriate social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
• Work closely with teaching staff to develop individualised behaviour plans and interventions tailored to the needs of students.
• Monitor and track students’ behaviour and progress, providing feedback to teachers and senior leaders.
• Deliver interventions to address specific behavioural issues, including anger management, social skills, and conflict resolution.
• Encourage and model positive behaviour through proactive support, building students’ self-esteem and resilience.
• Foster strong relationships with students, providing a safe and supportive environment where they feel valued and respected.
• Assist in the development and delivery of tailored programmes to promote emotional and social development.
• Support the school’s wider approach to promoting good behaviour, including helping to maintain a positive and respectful school culture.
• Engage with parents and carers to provide updates and offer strategies for supporting positive behaviour at home.
• Contribute to the development of school-wide strategies to reduce incidents of disruptive or challenging behaviour.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural or emotional challenges.
• Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and approaches.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
• Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students with complex needs.
• A proactive and solution-focused approach to managing challenging situations.
• Experience in delivering interventions or mentoring would be an advantage.
• A relevant qualification in education, youth work, or social care (or equivalent) is desirable.
