Job Title: Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant
Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant (KS4) | From £89/day | Reading | September Start | Full Time | Long Term Supply
Axcis are working with a well-regarded Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Reading to recruit a resilient and committed Teaching Assistant to support a KS4 class of students with challenging behaviour. This long-term, full-time role is due to start in September. The school is just a short walk from Reading train station and offers free onsite parking, making it highly accessible for commuters.
In this role, you’ll be supporting students in Years 10 and 11 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream settings due to persistent behavioural issues or underlying social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and pastoral staff to help pupils stay focused on their learning, manage their emotions, and prepare for post-16 pathways. Your responsibilities will include managing classroom behaviour, providing 1:1 and small group interventions, and helping students regulate through structured routines and consistent adult support. This is a challenging but highly rewarding role for the right person.
What we are looking for:
• Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs, ideally in a PRU, alternative provision or youth work setting.
• Confidence using behaviour management and de-escalation techniques (Team Teach or similar training is a bonus, but not essential).
• A calm, firm and empathetic approach, with the ability to build trust and act as a positive role model for KS4 students.
• Full-time availability from September, with a strong interest in supporting young people at a pivotal point in their education.
If you're passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people facing barriers to education, we’d love to hear from you.
