Axcis Education work very closely with a complex needs special school located in the vibrant city of Cardiff, South Glamorgan. This school takes pride in delivering exceptional education and support to pupils with a range of complex educational needs. They cater to a mixed-age group of students, providing a nurturing environment that allows each child to thrive and achieve their potential.
Purpose of the Role:
We are working closely with this school in searching for a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to join their awesome team. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of experience in either the care sector or education field – or both. As a core member of our staff, you will play an integral role in supporting our students with complex needs on their educational journey.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to pupils with a variety of complex needs, ensuring their educational and personal development in a safe and supportive environment.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of learning activities as directed by the teaching staff.
- Encourage students to engage with the curriculum and participate in school activities.
- Offer personal care to students when required, with respect for their dignity and independence.
- Work collaboratively with the teaching team to monitor and record students' progress, adapting support strategies as needed.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
- Assist in managing pupil behaviour, promoting positive behaviour and dealing with challenging situations calmly and effectively.
- Participate in school meetings and training sessions as appropriate.
- Provide cover support as needed, which may include working during school holiday periods.
Requirements:
- Experience in care or education settings, particularly with individuals who have complex needs, is highly desirable.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with children who have a range of learning, physical, and behavioural difficulties.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to supporting children and staff.
- Capacity to understand and follow safeguarding procedures and policies.
- Willingness to undertake personal care duties with appropriate training.
- A supportive and patient demeanour with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Flexibility to work additional hours to cover staff absences, when necessary.
- A valid driving license is ideal due to the location of the school.
