About the Role
Axcis Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism (ASD) in mainstream and specialist primary schools across Salford and Greater Manchester.
You’ll play a vital role in supporting both academic and emotional development through a combination of 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in-class assistance. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENDCO and pastoral teams to help children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Providing 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs
-Leading or supporting small group interventions focused on emotional literacy, social skills, and behaviour
-Zones of Regulation interventions
-Emotional Coaching
-Nurture Groups intervention
-Social Stories intervention
- Applying the "PACE approach" (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy)
-Assisting in the creation and review of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs)
-Using de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, PBS, or Proactive Approaches+)
-Encouraging positive peer interactions and building social communication skills
-Promoting emotional regulation and resilience through consistency and structured routines
-Contributing to the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
-Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, CAMHS)

We’re Looking for Candidates Who:
-Have 2+ years’ experience supporting children with ASD, SEMH or behaviour that challenges
-Hold a current Team Teach or equivalent de-escalation qualification (or be willing to re-train)
-Understand and apply trauma-informed strategies, including ACEs and emotional coaching
-Demonstrate a calm, patient and compassionate approach
-Can build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff and families
