Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a mainstream primary school in Ormskirk, who are looking to recruit a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) on a temp to permanent basis. This would be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, 27.5 hours per week. The successful candidate would work a set number of weeks on supply through Axcis before joining the school on a permanent basis. The Role You will work closely alongside the class teacher to support the delivery of a highly personalised curriculum within a small unit for pupils with complex needs. The children you will support are pre-verbal and require a nurturing, structured, and communication-focused approach to learning. A key part of your role will involve leading and supporting learning activities, delivering interventions, and helping to create a calm, engaging environment tailored to each child’s individual needs. Key Responsibilities • Support the class teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities • Lead small group and individual sessions within the unit • Use Intensive Interaction techniques to support communication development • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff • Support pupils with sensory, communication, and emotional needs The Ideal Candidate • Holds HLTA status or equivalent experience • Has strong knowledge and experience of SEND, particularly complex needs • Demonstrates practical experience using Intensive Interaction • Is confident working with pre-verbal children • Has a patient, empathetic, and proactive approach • Works well as part of a team and can take initiative when required Pay starts from £15.50 per hour and is negotiable dependent on level of qualification and experience. You will require an enhanced DBS on the update service for this position.
