Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School – Havering
From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis are working with a well-established and inclusive secondary school in Havering who are seeking a committed Learning Support Assistant to join their SEND and inclusion team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to support students across KS3 and KS4 who may need additional help with learning, confidence, organisation, communication or emotional regulation. The school has a strong focus on high expectations, positive relationships and helping every student access the curriculum successfully.
The successful candidate will be joining a supportive secondary setting with an experienced SENCO, pastoral team and wider inclusion staff. This role would suit someone who is calm, proactive and confident building relationships with students who may require additional support to stay focused, engage in lessons and develop independence.
The school is based in Havering and is accessible by local bus and train routes, with links from Hornchurch, Romford, Upminster, Rainham, Dagenham and surrounding East London areas.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support students across mainstream secondary lessons, small-group interventions and occasional 1:1 support. You will help pupils access learning, remain engaged in class and develop confidence in their academic and social development.
You will:
• Support students across KS3 and KS4 within mainstream classroom lessons
• Work with pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs and mild learning difficulties
• Help students understand tasks, stay focused and build positive learning habits
• Support pupils with organisation, confidence, communication and emotional regulation
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to provide consistent support
• Encourage independence, resilience and positive relationships with peers and staff
• Support small-group interventions where required
• Help maintain a calm, inclusive and purposeful learning environment
What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience working with young people in a school, SEND, care, mentoring, youth work or coaching setting
• Experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH or additional learning needs would be highly desirable
• A calm, patient and consistent approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Confidence supporting students in a busy secondary school environment
• Ability to use initiative and adapt support based on student needs
• Reliability, professionalism and a genuine interest in inclusive education
• Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September
