Job Title: Mental Health Classroom Support Location: Oldham, Lancashire Contract Type: Full-Time (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Classroom Support professional to join our team in Oldham. The ideal candidate will provide specialised support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within an educational setting. This position requires a resilient individual who has prior experience working with young people exhibiting challenging behaviours. Key Responsibilities: - Offer one-to-one support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them in achieving their full educational potential. - Implement individualised support plans under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs to manage and modify challenging behaviours effectively. - Establish trust and rapport with students to create a safe and supportive learning environment. - Utilise de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies to maintain a calm and structured classroom atmosphere. - Monitor and record student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and other professionals involved in the students' education and wellbeing. - Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to discuss student progress and concerns, ensuring a coordinated approach to the child's development. - Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to SEMH and behaviour management. - Uphold the values and policies of the educational institution, including safeguarding and confidentiality procedures. Requirements: - Proven experience working with young people who exhibit challenging behaviours. - Strong understanding of the needs of students with SEMH difficulties and the ability to respond sensitively to those needs. - Ability to manage challenging behaviour assertively and constructively. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to engage with students, staff, and parents. - A patient, empathetic approach to student support, with resilience and a positive attitude. - A current DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one. Education and Qualifications: - A relevant qualification in education, psychology, counselling, or social work is desirable. - Training in behaviour management, safeguarding, and/or SEN strategies is beneficial.
