Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant
Location: Two Specialist Sites in Trafford and lower Manchester – Driving Required
Age Range: 10–18
Contract: Full-Time
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to work with young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs. This is a hands-on, rewarding, but intense role, supporting pupils in small, highly structured settings.
What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day
• Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support throughout the day
• Supporting pupils in small learning spaces, activity rooms, dining areas, and outdoor environments
• Using PECS, symbols, visuals, and sensory-based approaches to aid communication
• Supporting personal care, toileting, and medical needs
• Assisting with mobility and manual handling where required
• Helping pupils engage with highly individualised learning pathways, including
EQUAL and EYFS-style approaches
• Prioritising regulation, comfort, and communication before formal learning
• Working closely with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to deliver consistent, structured support
Who We’re Looking For
• Experience supporting PMLD or complex medical needs
• Calm, patient, and observant
• Confident supporting personal and intimate care
• Able to follow care plans and EHCP targets consistently
• Driver essential – may be required across both sites
