Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Contract: Full-time, Temp-to-Perm

A well-established and highly regarded special school in Theale is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a full-time, term-time role supporting secondary-aged students (11–16) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a structured, supportive and inclusive learning environment, where staff work collaboratively to help students overcome barriers to learning and develop both academically and personally. This position offers real scope for professional growth and could lead to a permanent contract for the right candidate.
About the Role:
Working alongside skilled teachers and specialists, you’ll provide tailored support to students who may be facing challenges with emotional regulation, engagement or behaviour. Your focus will be on helping students build trust, stay engaged in their learning and develop essential life skills. This is a role that requires consistency, empathy and a calm, confident presence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct support to students in 1:1 or small group settings
• Assist with delivering individual support strategies based on EHCPs
• Contribute to planning and supporting lessons in collaboration with teaching staff
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour management through positive, proactive techniques
• Maintain a safe and respectful environment that promotes student well-being
• Liaise with external professionals, where appropriate, to ensure a holistic approach to support
• Encourage and recognise students' progress, building their confidence and self-esteem
What We’re Looking For:
• A Level 3 qualification (in any subject or area of study)
• At least 3 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND (in education, care or youth services)
• GCSEs in Maths and English (A*–C / 4–9)
• A confident approach to behaviour management and use of de-escalation techniques
• A reliable and consistent work ethic, with full-time availability during term time
• Patience, emotional resilience and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed
