A special needs primary school located in Waddon (Sutton) are looking for a class teacher (Mon-Thur) for the Autumn Term. You will be teaching one of their older classes (years 4-6) who are generally Pathway 2 learners. The pupils in the class have speech, language and communication needs and/or ASD. They are concrete thinkers and subject based learners. They are working at cognitive levels between 2 to 5 years, pre-Key stage Standard 2 through to 4. The majority of pupils in the class can engage in class/group learning for between 10-20 minutes. Their learning needs to be visual and kinaesthetic in nature. Many of the children in the class come to the school during their junior period of primary education often after a period of instability in their education. The children have good cognitive potential for learning but require a highly personalised approach to their personal and social education which is their main barrier to achieving. The School Curriculum helps them to focus on and understand their emotional needs and also help them to see and understand life from the perspective of others. Raising self- esteem and a positive attitude to learning is the key to the children accessing and learning from the wide variety of cross curricular topics and extra- curricular activities on offer. The class is made up of 8 pupils and there are 4- 5 teaching assistants in the class each day to support learning. The class team also comprises of a speech and language and occupational therapist who support the class weekly on a part-time basis . You must be a fully qualified teacher with previous SEND teaching experience, in order to apply for this role. Pay is negotiable.
