Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant Early Years
1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – Reception Location: Merstham Start Date: Monday 7th September 2026 Pay: £14.25 per hour PAYE Full-time, Term Time Only Hours: Initially half-days, increasing as the child settles into school We are recruiting for an experienced 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a child starting Reception at a primary school in Merstham. The child has Autism and Global Developmental Delay and is non-verbal. He also has a tendency to put objects in his mouth, so the school requires someone who is highly vigilant and confident providing close, consistent 1:1 supervision. The Role The successful Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the child access learning, develop communication and engage safely within the classroom environment. The child will initially be on a reduced timetable, so the role will begin with half-days during the transition period. Hours are expected to increase gradually as he settles into school. Requirements The school is ideally looking for someone with: Strong experience supporting autistic children Experience supporting non-verbal children Intensive Interaction experience Attention Bucket intervention experience A calm, patient and proactive approach to 1:1 support The ability to maintain a safe environment through close supervision Experience working within a primary school or SEND setting This role would suit a Teaching Assistant who is confident working closely with an autistic child and is able to provide consistent, patient and highly attentive support.
