Axcis Education are delighted to be working with a large special school close to The Forest Of Dean that specialise in providing a safe and stimulating environ for approx 50 secondary age pupils with SEMH, ASD and ADHD. Working in small class sizes in order to achieve a positive environment for learning the national curriculum, each class has a Teacher and a number of specialist Teaching Assistants. The role is for an Outdoor Education Teaching Assistant to work 3 days per week supporting with PE lessons, additional sports groups and outdoor excursions. This is a long term temp role that could lead to a permanent position should the candidate be the perfect fit for the school. You will be working with small groups of students aged between 11 and 16, providing general support. You will need to be able to establish a good working relationship with the students very quickly. Most days you will be based at the school and on other days you will accompany small group of students to outdoor educational activities across Gloucestershire. The pupils in this school exhibit very challenging behaviour so experience of working in an intense environment s and high levels of resilience are essential. This role is only suitable for candidates who have worked within a special school before. The school unit uses therapeutic approaches such as thrive to help pupils with social emotional and mental health needs to become confident and happy young people who are capable of regulating their emotions and contributing positively to society. The school is extremely welcoming, has a fantastic support structure and offers excellent resources for all staff that work there. A lot of these children have had difficult home lives and have been let down many times. You must have a calm nature and ability to de-escalate situations. We are looking for someone who is unfazed by challenging behaviour and those trained in Team Teach and MAPA would be at an advantage. These children need a positive role model and the right candidate will be resilient, empathetic and understanding. The role is full time (8.30am to 3.30pm) and will start at the beginning of September 2020 on an ongoing basis until the end of the academic year. The right candidate will be an inventive and positive worker who has a proactive attitude and will be calm and resilient in difficult situations. You will be a positive role model and will have a chance to make a real difference to a child's life. A full driving licence is essential. For this role, you must have an enhanced DBS certificate dated within the previous 3 years. Axcis Education is a specialist recruiter for special needs education.
