Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Primary School Teaching Assistants – SEND – Chorley
Multiple Opportunities | Primary School
Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who thrives in a busy classroom environment? Do you have the confidence, patience and resilience to support children with additional and complex needs?
Axcis Education is recruiting dedicated, proactive and confident Teaching Assistants to work in a mainstream primary school in the Chorley area.
This school has a high level of SEND need and requires individuals who are confident providing 1:1 support to pupils who need additional help to access learning, manage their emotions and navigate the school day.
This is an opportunity for someone who genuinely understands SEND, can adapt their approach to individual children and isn't afraid to get hands-on when support is needed.
The Role
You will be working within a mainstream primary school, supporting children with a range of additional needs. Some pupils will require intensive 1:1 support, while others may need assistance within the wider classroom environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with additional and complex needs.
• Supporting children who may struggle with emotional regulation, communication, engagement and transitions.
• Managing challenging behaviour confidently, calmly and consistently.
• Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Helping children access classroom activities and the wider curriculum.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships.
• Adapting your approach to meet individual needs and responding to changing situations.
• Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and other support staff.
Essential Requirements
To be considered, you must:
• Have at least 6 months' relevant UK SEND experience, gained through paid employment, extensive personal caring responsibilities or voluntary experience supporting children or adults with SEND.
• Be aged 18 or over.
• Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
• Be available Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm.
• Be confident providing 1:1 support and working with children with high levels of SEND need.
• Be comfortable managing challenging behaviour and supporting children with emotional regulation.
• Be patient, resilient, proactive and confident using your initiative.
• Be adaptable and comfortable working in a busy mainstream primary school.
• Be able to travel reliably to Chorley and the surrounding areas.
• Have an overseas police clearance certificate for any country where you have spent six months or more within the last five years (where applicable).
Who Would Suit This Role?
We are looking for people who can bring more than just enthusiasm into the classroom.
You need to be confident, switched on and able to recognise when a child needs support, reassurance or a different approach. You must be comfortable working with children who may display challenging behaviour and understand the importance of consistency, patience and positive relationships.
Previous experience in mainstream schools, specialist provisions, alternative provisions or other SEND support environments would be beneficial.
