Job Title: Student Support Worker
Student Support Worker | Resource Base for Students with Complex Physical & Medical Needs
Location: South Gloucestershire
Contract Type: Flexible Agency Work | Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
Pay: From £14.25 per hour, dependent on experience
Looking for a role where compassion, patience and genuine care can make a life-changing difference?
Axcis Education is recruiting dedicated and empathetic Student Support Workers to support young people with complex physical, medical and learning needs within a specialist resource base attached to a mainstream secondary school.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with students who require personalised support to access education, develop independence and achieve their individual goals. We're particularly keen to hear from people who bring experience from healthcare, care, hospital education, disability support, residential settings or personal experience of supporting someone with additional needs.
Most importantly, we're looking for people with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to helping young people thrive.
About the Role
Working as part of an experienced and supportive team, you'll play an important role in helping students access all aspects of school life. The resource base supports young people with a wide range of complex physical disabilities, medical conditions, communication needs and associated learning difficulties.
No two days are the same. You may be supporting a student to access lessons, assisting with specialist equipment, helping to develop communication and independence skills, providing personal care, supporting mobility needs or working alongside therapists and medical professionals to ensure students can participate fully in school life.
The role requires a thoughtful, person-centred approach. You'll build strong relationships with students, encourage independence wherever possible and help create an environment where young people feel safe, respected and empowered to achieve their potential.
You'll work closely with teachers, SEND professionals, therapists, healthcare staff and families to ensure every student receives the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.
About the Setting
This well-established secondary school resource base is recognised for its inclusive ethos and commitment to ensuring that students with complex physical and medical needs can access a broad, ambitious and meaningful education alongside their peers.
The provision combines specialist support with opportunities for inclusion within the wider school community, enabling students to develop confidence, independence, social skills and aspirations for adulthood. Staff work collaboratively to provide high-quality care and educational support, ensuring that each student's individual needs, strengths and goals remain at the centre of everything they do.
This is a setting where relationships matter, teamwork is valued and every small step of progress is celebrated.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in hearing from candidates who have experience supporting individuals with complex physical disabilities, medical needs, learning disabilities or additional needs.
Relevant experience could come from education, healthcare, nursing, residential care, supported living services, rehabilitation settings, youth work, hospital environments or community-based support services. We also welcome applications from individuals whose personal experiences have given them a strong understanding of disability, additional needs or caring responsibilities.
You should be comfortable supporting personal care needs with dignity, sensitivity and professionalism.
Experience supporting individuals with physical disabilities, complex medical conditions, communication difficulties or profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) would be highly beneficial. Knowledge of moving and handling procedures, specialist equipment or medical care plans would also be advantageous, although training can be provided.
Above all, we're looking for people who are compassionate, reliable, adaptable and committed to helping young people achieve the very best outcomes possible.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, is essential.
Why Join Axcis Education?

This includes specialist learning focused on complex needs, medical needs, communication, physical disabilities, autism, SEMH, safeguarding and inclusive practice. You'll receive CPD-certified certificates for completed courses, helping you build confidence, expand your knowledge and strengthen your professional profile.
