Axcis Education are working with a dedicated special school in Plymouth that provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment for children and young people with autism. Their goal is to empower their students to achieve their fullest potential by offering a curriculum tailored to their individual needs.
Job Description:
The school are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have autism, helping to facilitate their learning and development within the classroom setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing educational activities tailored to the needs of students with autism spectrum disorders.
- Provide one-to-one support to students, helping them to engage with tasks and overcome learning barriers.
- Utilise appropriate communication strategies and tools to facilitate interaction and comprehension for students with communication difficulties.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians.
- Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Employ techniques for managing challenging behaviours in a calm and effective manner.
- Participate in relevant meetings and contribute to the development of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assist with the preparation of teaching materials and resources that support diverse learning needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrable experience working with children or adults with autism or special educational needs.
- Solid understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with autism and the strategies that aid in their education and development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents.
- A patient, flexible, and resilient approach to work.
- A commitment to professional growth and a willingness to undertake ongoing training and development.
