Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: Skelmersdale Salary: Starting from £83.50 per day Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30-3:30pm. Start Date: ASAP Axcis Education are looking for compassionate, dedicated, and proactive teaching assistants to work in secondary SEND schools. Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time hours, this is an excellent opportunity to bring your experience from the care sector into the educational setting and make a real difference in the lives of students with diverse needs. As a teaching assistant in a secondary SEND school, you will provide essential support to students with a range of learning disabilities, including autism, physical disabilities, and emotional or behavioural needs. The role involves helping students engage with their learning, supporting their emotional well-being, and aiding with day-to-day tasks, including personal care and mobility. We welcome applicants with experience in care, social work, or other support roles, as these backgrounds often bring valuable skills in empathy, patience, and understanding that can be transferred into the classroom. Key Responsibilities: • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEND, helping them access and engage with the curriculum. • Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility support, as required. • Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement. • Work alongside teachers and other professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies. • Help students develop independence and life skills, fostering their confidence and self-esteem. • Assist with general classroom tasks, including preparing resources and supporting group activities. • Monitor and record students' progress and wellbeing, feeding back to the teaching team. • Be a positive role model, promoting inclusion, respect, and teamwork. The Ideal Candidate: • Previous experience working with young people in a care or support role is highly desirable, though not essential. • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students. • A commitment to supporting the individual needs of each student, both academically and personally. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, other teaching assistants, and external professionals. • Experience in or an understanding of supporting students with autism, learning disabilities, or behavioural difficulties. • A genuine passion for working with children and young people with SEND. • Relevant qualifications in health, social care, or education (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are an advantage but not essential.
