Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting with the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.
- Supporting students with SEMH needs, both in a classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis.
- Working with teachers to maintain a safe, respectful and nurturing environment conducive to learning.
- Preparing educational materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Aiding students with their learning and comprehension in various subjects.
- Encouraging and supporting students to complete assigned tasks and participate in activities.
- Managing classroom behaviour and using strategies to promote positive behaviour.
- Facilitating communication between students and staff.
- Monitoring and supporting the progress and well-being of students.
- Assisting with the planning and implementation of individual education plans for specific students.
- Accompanying and supervising students on excursions and school-related activities outside the classroom.
- Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other staff members to support student success.
- Participating in staff meetings and professional development activities as required.
Requirements:
- Experience in working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Competency in managing challenging behavior and using de-escalation techniques.
- A patient and creative approach to working with children.
- Flexibility to adapt to various teaching methods and learning styles.
- A driver's license and access to a vehicle due to the location of the job.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Appropriate references.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A relevant teaching assistant qualification, or a willingness to work towards one.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with educational frameworks and an understanding of the national curriculum.
- Experience or qualifications in Special Education Needs.
