Job Title: Teaching Assistant Location: Chard, Somerset Job Type: Full-time Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm Specialism: Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Learning Disabilities Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join an educational team in Chard, Somerset, committed to supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will be an empathetic individual who thrives in an educational environment and is keen to make a positive impact on our students' academic and personal development. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the delivery of tailored educational programs for students with SEMH needs and learning disabilities. - Provide one-to-one support to students, helping to manage their emotions and behaviour in a classroom setting. - Work closely with the lead teacher to plan and organise activities that promote learning and personal growth. - Encourage students to engage with the curriculum and achieve their potential by using a variety of instructional strategies tailored to their individual needs. - Monitor and record students’ progress, and provide feedback to teachers and other educational professionals. - Help set up lesson materials and create a supportive and structured learning environment. - Work collaboratively with other staff members, therapists, and educational specialists to meet the students' educational and emotional needs. - Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans. - Assist students with physical needs, including mobility, personal care, or the use of learning aids and technology. - Comply with all school policies, and support the health and wellbeing of all students. Required Skills and Qualifications: - A genuine passion for helping children with SEMH needs and learning disabilities. - A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance or Special Educational Needs is preferred. - Experience working with children or young adults with SEMH needs and/or learning disabilities. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents. - Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations. - The ability to work as part of a team and to use your initiative when working independently. - Basic IT skills for record-keeping and educational support. - An understanding of child safeguarding principles.
