Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Tower Hamlets From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start Axcis are working with a large, successful and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets who are seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September. This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and wants to work within a high-performing school where inclusion is central to everyday practice. You will be joining an experienced team of teachers, Teaching Assistants and SEND professionals who work closely together to provide consistent, individualised support. The school is based in the Poplar area of Tower Hamlets and benefits from excellent access to the DLR, Underground and local bus routes, making it easily accessible from Newham, Stratford, Canary Wharf, Hackney and surrounding East London areas. About the SEND Teaching Assistant Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the primary age range who require additional help to access learning and participate fully in school life. Support may be provided within mainstream lessons, through targeted small-group interventions or on a 1:1 basis. Pupils may have needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, developmental delay, SEMH or social communication needs. Your responsibilities will include: • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND • Helping children engage with lessons and complete adapted learning activities • Using visual timetables, now-and-next boards and structured routines • Supporting communication, attention and emotional regulation • Helping pupils manage transitions and changes throughout the school day • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction • Supporting literacy, numeracy and targeted classroom interventions • Following EHCP targets and individual support plans • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider inclusion team • Recording pupil progress and sharing relevant observations with school staff What We’re Looking For • Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or 1:1 support worker • Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH or communication needs • A calm, patient and nurturing approach • Confidence adapting support to meet individual pupil needs • Strong communication and relationship-building skills • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider classroom and SEND team • Experience using PECS, Makaton or visual communication strategies would be beneficial • Knowledge of EHCPs and individual support plans would be advantageous • Reliability and full-time availability for a long-term role from September This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Tower Hamlets primary school where high-quality inclusion is genuinely valued.
