Axcis Education is recruiting on behalf of a fantastic mainstream primary school in Bournemouth with a well-established specialist SEND provision. The school is known for its nurturing ethos, excellent leadership and collaborative staff team, making it a fantastic environment for experienced SEND professionals to thrive.
This rewarding full-time role involves supporting a small class of 6–8 pupils with a range of additional needs, primarily Speech & Language (S&L) difficulties and ASC, including non-verbal pupils. Working alongside an experienced Primary Teacher and HLTA, you will help deliver tailored learning and provide the consistency and encouragement pupils need to achieve their full potential.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Support pupils with ASC and S&L needs within a small, structured classroom environment.
Deliver personalised learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher and HLTA.
Use communication strategies such as PECS and Makaton to support non-verbal pupils (training available where required).
Encourage positive communication, independence and social development.
Adapt learning resources to meet individual EHCP outcomes.
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to reviews and planning meetings.
Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
Help create a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
Support pupils' emotional wellbeing and development throughout the school day.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASC and Speech & Language needs.
Has experience working with non-verbal pupils or using communication aids such as PECS or Makaton (desirable but not essential).
Is patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships with children.
Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Understands the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive classroom strategies.
Holds a relevant TA qualification or has equivalent school-based experience.
Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
