The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Complex learning difficulties Communication needs Social, emotional, and developmental needs You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual education goals while working closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN team. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support in line with pupils' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Support the delivery of engaging, tailored learning activities. Use communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, or similar approaches to encourage participation and communication. Provide personal care respectfully and professionally where required. Support pupils' communication, social, emotional, and independence skills. Encourage positive behaviour using consistent routines and strategies. Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to meet pupils' individual needs. Monitor and report on pupil progress, engagement, and wellbeing. Contribute to the school's positive, inclusive, and child-centred ethos. About You The ideal candidate will have: Previous experience supporting children with Autism and/or complex SEND. Experience using alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or similar approaches. Confidence in providing personal care where required. A patient, caring, and adaptable approach. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one. Why Join This School?
