Axcis are working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in East London who are seeking a committed and confident Year 1 Class Teacher to join their team on a long-term basis, starting after half term. The school has a strong focus on early learning, phonics and inclusion, and is looking for a teacher who can provide consistency and high-quality teaching for the remainder of the academic year and beyond.
This is a full class teacher role, teaching up to 30 pupils, supported by two to three Teaching Assistants within the classroom. The class includes children with autism and additional SEND, including some pupils who are non-verbal or working at a lower developmental level, so experience with inclusive practice is essential.
In this role, you will be:
• Planning and delivering engaging, well-structured Year 1 lessons in line with the national curriculum.
• Leading high-quality phonics teaching, ensuring strong early reading foundations for all learners.
• Differentiating effectively to meet a wide range of abilities, including pupils with SEND.
• Working closely with experienced Teaching Assistants to support learning, communication and regulation.
• Creating a calm, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment.
• Monitoring progress, contributing to assessments and supporting pupils’ academic and personal development.
• Working collaboratively with parents, colleagues and the wider school team.
What we’re looking for:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
• Proven experience teaching in KS1, ideally Year 1.
• Strong knowledge and confidence in delivering phonics.
• Experience supporting pupils with autism and additional needs within a mainstream setting.
• Ability to commit long-term and provide consistency for the class.
• A reflective, organised and resilient practitioner who thrives in inclusive classrooms.
Trial days will take place before half term, with the successful candidate starting shortly after.
