Axcis Education is seeking a dedicated and motivated Construction & Carpentry Learning Support Assistant to work within a welcoming and supportive post-16 college in Bromley. This rewarding role involves supporting students with additional needs who are enrolled on Level 2 Construction and/or Carpentry programmes, helping them develop both practical trade skills and the confidence needed to progress into apprenticeships, employment, or further training.
This opportunity would suit candidates with experience in construction, carpentry, site work, apprenticeships, vocational education, learner support, youth work, or training and assessment roles.
Key Responsibilities
• Support students studying Construction and Carpentry qualifications within workshop and classroom environments.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to learners who require additional assistance.
• Assist students in developing practical woodworking, joinery, and construction skills safely and effectively.
• Support learners to complete coursework, practical assessments, and portfolio evidence.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement, attendance, and participation.
• Assist teaching staff with preparing materials, equipment, and workshop resources.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times within practical learning environments.
• Help learners develop employability skills, confidence, independence, and workplace readiness.
• Work collaboratively with lecturers, learning support teams, and pastoral staff to ensure students achieve their full potential.
• Monitor learner progress and contribute to reviews, targets, and support plans where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate
• Previous experience in Construction, Carpentry, Joinery, Building Trades, Site Supervision, Apprenticeships, or Vocational Education.
• A recognised trade qualification in Carpentry, Joinery, Construction, or a related subject is desirable.
• Experience supporting young people or adults in education, training, mentoring, or employment settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, supportive, and encouraging approach to working with learners.
• Knowledge of workshop health and safety requirements.
• The ability to motivate and engage students with varying levels of ability and confidence.
• A proactive and adaptable attitude with excellent organisational skills.
• A genuine passion for helping young people succeed within the construction industry.
