Job Title: MAPA-Trained SEND Support Practitioner Location: All-Through Special School, Sutton, Wellington, SM6 Hours: 9am – 4pm Age Range: 7–16 Needs: MLD, ASD, EBD Are you a compassionate, proactive and skilled SEND professional looking for your next rewarding role? An all-through special school in Sutton is seeking a MAPA-trained practitioner to join their team, supporting pupils aged 7–16 with a range of needs including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). About the Role: This position involves providing dedicated support to a male student who responds particularly well to calm, nurturing and consistent interaction. You will help him regulate, engage with learning, and feel secure throughout the day. You’ll play a key part in supporting his academic, social, and emotional development across the all-through school, following the school’s therapeutic, child-centred approach. School Expectations & Approach The school follows a therapeutic, relational approach. Staff are expected to: • Avoid shouting – communication must remain calm, respectful, and never derogatory. • Use soft communication – tone is crucial; staff must maintain a gentle and composed manner. • Set clear boundaries – expectations must be consistent and fair. • Use positive reinforcement – celebrate positive behaviour rather than focusing on negatives. • Stay actively engaged – take initiative by: Moving around the classroom Interacting with students and colleagues Building relationships and supporting learning throughout the day This approach ensures a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where students can thrive.
