Location: Reading Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Contract: Full-time, long-term Start: ASAP A welcoming and inclusive all-through special school in Reading is looking for a passionate and adaptable SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This school caters for pupils aged 4 to 19 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities, including PMLD, ASD, ADHD, communication difficulties, complex medical needs and challenging behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong desire to support pupils with diverse needs in a meaningful and practical way and who thrives in a team that values collaboration, flexibility, diligence and compassion. Job Description: As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across various age groups and needs within the classroom and in wider school activities. The role involves close collaboration with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning and care, helping every pupil to feel safe, understood and able to progress at their own pace. Key Responsibilities: • Work 1:1 or in small groups with pupils with a range of SEND, adapting your approach to suit each individual's learning style, needs and communication methods. • Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets and differentiated lesson plans. • Support students with personal care tasks, such as toileting, feeding and mobility, or be willing to learn these skills with training provided. • Use de-escalation strategies confidently and sensitively to manage behaviour and promote emotional regulation. • Encourage communication and interaction using speech, visuals, Makaton or other methods as appropriate. • Monitor and record progress, sharing feedback with the wider team to support pupil development. • Foster a safe, respectful and positive learning environment at all times. Essential Requirements: • Minimum of 3 months’ experience supporting children, young people or adults with SEND (in any setting). • Confidence in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour calmly. • Willingness to support with or learn personal care tasks. • Reliable, proactive and flexible approach to supporting a range of ages and needs. • Patient, emotionally resilient and able to remain calm under pressure. • Able to work Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm on a consistent basis.
