Job Title: SEND Teacher
SEND Teacher – Special School – Havering
£180–£250 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | ASAP Start | Havering
Axcis Education is recruiting a positive, adaptable and confident SEND Teacher to work within a specialist school in Havering, supporting pupils with Autism, complex communication needs and additional learning difficulties.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working in a highly individualised setting where progress is not always measured in traditional academic terms. Pupils may be pre-verbal or non-verbal, and the successful teacher will need to be comfortable adapting lessons around communication, sensory needs, engagement and individual learning pathways.
Previous special-school experience would be highly desirable, but it is not essential where the teacher has strong classroom practice, QTS and a genuine interest in working within SEND.
About the Role
Teaching pupils across KS1 and KS2
Supporting children with Autism and complex communication needs
Working with pupils who may be pre-verbal or non-verbal
Planning and delivering highly differentiated lessons
Using structured approaches such as Now & Next boards, visual timetables and personalised routines
Supporting pupils across different learning pathways
Working closely with Teaching Assistants to provide consistent classroom support
Following and contributing towards EHCP targets
Supporting pupils with communication, regulation, independence and engagement
Creating a calm, structured and positive classroom environment
About You
We would particularly like to hear from teachers who:
Hold QTS
Have previous experience within a special school or SEND setting – highly desirable
Are confident adapting lessons for pupils working at different developmental levels
Have experience supporting Autism and communication needs
Are comfortable working with pre-verbal and non-verbal pupils
Can lead and work collaboratively with a team of Teaching Assistants
Have a positive, flexible and can-do attitude
Are patient, resilient and able to celebrate small steps of progress
Can commit to a full-time, long-term role starting ASAP
The School & Location
The role is based within a specialist school in Havering, with good transport links from Romford, Harold Hill, Hornchurch and surrounding East London and Essex areas. This would suit a teacher who enjoys working in a setting where learning is creative, practical and highly personalised, and where strong relationships with pupils and support staff are central to progress.
