Job Description:
Are you passionate about supporting students with autism and helping them to thrive both academically and personally? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our specialist SEND college for students aged 16 and over. In this role, you will work closely with students in small class sizes to support their learning and development in a range of subjects and activities.
Our students engage not only in academic studies but also in real-world activities such as running their own café and garden centre, providing a truly dynamic and rewarding learning environment. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring that students remain engaged and supported as they work towards their individual goals and build vital life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students in their academic learning, adapting materials and activities to meet their individual needs.
Assist students with autism in developing communication, social, and life skills.
Help facilitate a wide range of activities, including running the college café and garden centre.
Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging students to participate and engage.
Work collaboratively with other staff members to track student progress and report on achievements.
Support students with any additional needs they may have.
Ensure a safe, respectful, and structured environment for all students.
Ideal Candidate:
Previous experience working with students with autism or SEND (preferably in a school or college setting).
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to individual student needs.
An enthusiastic, proactive approach and a willingness to get involved in a wide range of activities.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
A positive attitude towards learning and development, with a focus on building independence and life skills for students.
