Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism Alternative Provision – Dagenham
Up to £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis are working with an inclusive primary school in Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham, who are seeking a confident and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their specialist autism provision from September.
The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a primary-aged pupil with autism and ADHD. You will help the pupil manage transitions, remain engaged with learning and develop their communication, independence and emotional-regulation skills.
This role would suit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, Autism Support Assistant or Learning Support Assistant who can provide calm, consistent support while maintaining clear routines and positive boundaries. The school is accessible from Dagenham, Chadwell Heath, Barking, Romford, Ilford and surrounding areas.
About the Role
You will work within the school’s specialist provision, providing individual support based on the pupil’s learning, communication, sensory and emotional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with autism and ADHD
• Helping the pupil remain focused and engaged during learning activities
• Using visual timetables, structured routines and clear instructions
• Supporting communication, interaction and emotional regulation
• Preparing and adapting activities around the pupil’s individual targets
• Using positive reinforcement and appropriate de-escalation strategies
• Supporting transitions between activities and areas of the school
• Helping the pupil develop independence and positive learning behaviours
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and specialist support staff
• Recording progress, behaviour and relevant observations accurately
• Maintaining strong safeguarding and professional standards
What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant or Autism Support Worker
• Experience providing 1:1 support to children with autism or ADHD
• Understanding of visual communication and structured learning approaches
• Strong behaviour-management and de-escalation skills
• A calm, patient and emotionally resilient personality
• Confidence maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
• Ability to build trust with children who may communicate differently
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Full-time availability from September
• Commitment to a long-term position
