As a Teaching Assistant in Yeovil, you will provide consistent support both inside and outside the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to help pupils access learning, manage challenges and develop positive behaviours and relationships. This position would suit candidates with previous experience in SEMH, SEND, education, youth work, care, mentoring or pastoral support. Candidates with relevant personal experience who can demonstrate the right attitude, resilience and ability to connect with young people are also encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities: • Supporting pupils to access lessons and participate positively in school life • Working alongside teachers to provide individual and small-group support • Developing positive and professional relationships with pupils • Helping young people manage emotional, social and behavioural challenges • Encouraging engagement with learning and classroom activities • Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence • Reinforcing positive behaviour and agreed school expectations • Providing a calm and consistent presence throughout the school day • Supporting pupils with communication and social development • Following individualised support plans and strategies • Recognising pupil achievements and encouraging continued progress • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral colleagues and other professionals The Successful Teaching Assistant Will Have: • Experience working with children or young people in education, SEND, SEMH, care, youth work or a related setting • A patient, understanding and non-judgemental approach • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils • Confidence supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • The resilience to remain calm and consistent in difficult situations • A genuine interest in supporting children and young people's development • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team Personal experience can be considered alongside professional experience, so candidates who have developed relevant skills through supporting young people outside of a formal educational role are welcome to apply.
